SUMMER VOLUNTEERS

BENEDICTINE SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Sisters of Mother of God Monastery invite lay persons to experience the Benedictine way of life by living, praying, and working with the Sisters in the monastery during the summer months as well as being of service in various mission sites.

The Summer Volunteer Program is open to women and men who:

  • are willing to participate in the life and work of the monastery for one week to two months

  • are at least 18 years old and in good physical and emotional health

  • are able to cover transportation to and from Watertown and to provide for own personal and medical expenses

Mother of God Monastery provides:

  • housing on monastery grounds and meals with the Sisters

  • participation in daily communal prayer, Eucharist, work and recreation, and the life of the Sisters

  • orientation about the Benedictine way of life, South Dakota and it's people

  • peaceful, rural environment

  • cultural experiences with Native American people

  • spiritual direction (if desired)

  • transportation to and from service sites

Possible Areas of Service:

Assisting individual Sister, gardening, yard work, housekeeping, homeless shelter, Habitat for Humanity, working with developmentally challenged adults, summer camp with Native American children
