SISTER MARVA JEAN HOECKELMAN

Sister Marva Jean said that a few people and a reoccurring dream influenced her decision to come to the monastery.  The people that influenced her decision were; her mother, two of her best friends and Sister Vivian of Mother of God Monastery.  The dream she describes as a repeating premonition dream in which people would ask her if she would become a Sister.

Before she entered the convent, she was working in the area of hospital admissions.  During initial formation, she was involved in many different areas of ministry;

  •  Hospitality

  •  Development clerk

  •  Library aide

  •  Sacristan

  •  Student

  •  Teacher aide with Washington Elementary School and St. Joseph's School in Pierre, SD

She had been teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at St. John's School in Lincoln, NE from 1999-2005.

Her educational achievements are the following;

  •  B.A. in Education, Mount Marty College, Watertown, SD, 1999

  •  First place award in 1996 in the American Benedictine Academy Junior Essay Competition

Currently she is living at the monastery among all of us.
