OBITUARY

Sister Marcia Bosch

Sister Marcia (Margaret) Bosch, 82, was born August 6, 1923, in Linton, North Dakota, the fourth child in the family of two girls and six boys born to Fred and Dorothy (Schweitzer) Bosch.  She fondly remembered those special years of growing up on a farm and her strong family life.  It was then she began to cultivate her favorite past-time of quietly observing what was happening around her-the sunrises and sunsets, cloud formations, and all the signs of new life.

Margaret attended grades one to eight in a one-room school in South Prairie and graduated from Linton High School.  She received her Bachelor's Degree from Mt. Marty College and her Master's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.

Already at age five she declared "That's what I want to be" when she saw two Sisters going into a dentist's office.  Her parents gently nurtured that dream until the age of 19, she entered Sacred Heart Convent in Yankton, SD.  Sister Marcia made her monastic profession in 1944.  In June of 1961, she became one of the founding members of Mother of God Monastery in Pierre, now in Watertown.  She celebrated the 60th anniversary of her profession in 2004.

Immediately after her monastic profession, Sister Marcia began her 40-year ministry in the field of education, as a teacher and Administrator in elementary education in Aberdeen, Hoven, Pierre, and Ipswich in South Dakota and in Richardton and Fort Yates, ND.  Following a year-long sabbatical, she ministered as a Parish Visitor at St. Joseph Cathedral Parish, Sioux Falls, SD.  As a parish visitor, she coordinated the 25-member team that visited the homebound parishioners, residents in seven nursing homes and patients in three hospitals.  During this time, Bishop Carlson asked Sister Marcia to work in the Diocesan Archives, a part-time position she held until about one year ago.

Upon her return to the monastery, Sister Marcia remained actively engaged in community activities.  She especially enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing for the sisters, and cleaning and organizing work spaces.

Sister Marcia is survived by her Sisters of Mother of God Monastery, a sister Ann Schmaltz and a brother Peter F. Bosch both of Bismarck, North Dakota, and many nieces and nephews.
